We’re redefining resilience for the modern workplace.

High performance and personal wellbeing aren't mutually exclusive.

Our vision is simple but powerful: to create work environments where people perform optimally while staying well.

The world of work is now fast-paced, digitised and interdependent. Regardless of your job or industry, chances are you are trying to do more with less, please more demanding customers, solve complex issues and stay relevant in a shifting marketplace.

The acronym VUCA, a term borrowed from the military, is often used to describe this new environment as one that is Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous. Whatever is happening in your job, it’s likely that you are balancing these demands with a home life full of the usual ‘busyness’ and curved balls. How do you meet these life challenges? How do you adapt and perform while still staying physically and mentally well? One of the responses frequently offered is ‘build your resilience’.

Before we can build anything it is useful to understand what it is we are actually building. This means that a clear definition of what we mean by work resilience is a good place to start.

We think of resilience-building as developing a toolkit of actions and ways of thinking. The more tools we have at our disposal, and the more skilled we are at using them, the better our chance of staying in a resilient state.

We are a global consortium of organisational psychologists, practitioners, and academics who have come together with a shared purpose. We don’t just teach resilience; we build it into the DNA of organisations through rigorous science and practical, everyday actions.

Our Story.

Working With Resilience was established in 2010 in response to a growing need. The world of work was becoming increasingly turbulent, complex, and pressurised, yet the tools available to support employees were often generic or focused solely on “coping.”

We saw a gap between general wellness advice and the specific, gritty reality of modern workplaces. We knew that for resilience to truly stick, it needed to be relevant to the job at hand. It had to be more than just “bouncing back”; it had to be about adapting, growing, and positioning for the future.

Over the last decade, we have grown from a specialist consultancy into a worldwide network, uniting experts who are passionate about transforming how organisations handle pressure.

To create resilience within a group of people it makes sense that each person needs to develop their personal resilience as best they can in order to contribute as an effective member. A group of resilient people does not however guarantee a resilient team. The reason for this is that team member behaviours need to be aligned and not in conflict in order for the group as a whole to be effective. Purpose, goals and values are a good example of this. To create team resilience these need to be shared and if misaligned will impact negatively on the group’s performance. The R@W Team measures the additional factors required at a team level to build resilience.

Our Difference: Evidence Meets Action.

Resilience is often treated as a buzzword, but to us, it’s a measurable, developable capability. We take a systemic approach that sets us apart from standard wellness initiatives.

We are scientifically grounded

Our Resilience at Work (R@W) Toolkit is supported by over 120 international academic studies. We don't guess what works; we know.

We look at the whole picture

We understand that a resilient individual cannot thrive in a broken system. That’s why we work at three levels: equipping individuals with skills, building cohesive teams, and developing leaders who create psychological safety.

We focus on the "how"

Theory is interesting, but action changes behaviour. Our resources are designed to be practical, focusing on small, manageable shifts in behaviour that lead to sustainable change.
Meet our founder.

Kathryn McEwen.

Organisational Psychologist
Creator of the R@W Toolkit

Kathryn McEwen founded Resilience@Work with a determination to bring scientific rigour to the field of workplace wellbeing. As an organisational psychologist, she recognised that existing measures of resilience were often clinical or personality-based, failing to capture the dynamic nature of the workplace.

Kathryn spent years researching and developing the R@W Scale, creating a framework that recognises resilience as a state that can be built, not a fixed trait you are born with. Her work has empowered thousands of leaders and coaches globally to build strong, high-performing teams using practical, evidence-based tools.

Today, Kathryn continues to lead the charge as a mentor and thought leader, ensuring that our global community remains at the cutting edge of resilience research.
